Originating in Asheville is a lawsuit. Three couples are challenging new legislation, originally in the form of Senate Bill 2, which allows magistrates and registers of deeds to recuse themselves from activities that would sear their consciences. Primary sponsor Phil Berger rightly stated it is his job to protect the free exercise of conscience. The plaintiffs, however, argue out on a limb that supporting the free exercise of conscience somehow establishes a state church. To me, it sounds like the plaintiffs want, “my church or the highway.” Politically incorrect as possible, Berger shared:

Every North Carolinian seeking a gay marriage license since Senate Bill 2 became law has received one, and this is just the latest attempt by the far left’s political correctness mob to force their beliefs on everyone else by trampling the First Amendment guarantee of religious freedom.
