Wow, so the $32 million whitewater complex on the Catawba is having trouble? Local taxpayers could be on the hook to payback the loans local governments foolishly underwrote? Wonders never cease.

This thing was a goofy idea from the beginning, one that only got off the ground because some Uptown bankers liked to kayak. Due diligence for access to the site? Because no one was putting their own money at risk, it never happened. Actual market research for a proof of concept? Hey, we’re Uptown bankers, we know what people like. Who can build the thing? How about Rodgers Builders, they did the $25 million ImaginOn for $52.6 million and all the Uptown folks just love it.

Instead of yet another publicly-subsidized “attraction,” taxpayers are dangerously close to a gurgling, burbling Cityfair of a cluster-hump. Classic, just classic.
