Here’s one more reason why visiting or attempting to do business in Chapel Hill may become even more burdensome. I challenge the Nanny-Staters to explain the intellectual difference between banning hands-free phone use and banning children or any passenger. If the issue really is distractions while driving, there is no intellectual difference. In fact, based on my anecdotal evidence — gathered after nearly being sideswiped several times on I-40 and the Durham Freeway by a parent who is feeding, dressing, yelling at, playing with or reading to a child — I’d say children are more of a distraction than hands-free phones. So when will Chapel Hill vote to ban children in cars? And by the way, what about those distracting GPS units that talk to you? Will the Nanny-Staters ban those from the ubiquitous Volvos and BMWs driven by Chapel Hill residents and employees of the university?
