Even though the U.S. Constitution was created to limit government
authority, the power and scope of government grows. Writing in
May’s Freedom Daily about the book Against Leviathan: Government Power and a Free Society,
George Leef praised author Robert Higgs for his vigorous collection of
40 essays about state power. Higgs isn’t optimistic about the future.
“The culture of obedience to big government is, he fears, too deeply
imbedded in America for there to be much hope of a return to a free
society,” Leef wrote.
