I was only half-awake when I heard WFDD morning host Jeff Tiberri read the headline that Metalcraft of Mayville’s Greensboro plant was closing, putting 121 employees out of work.

But I snapped awake when I heard Tiberii report the “better economic news” that Triad-area mass transit agencies will receive $9 million federal economic stimulus funding, including $3 million for PART to expand its park-and-ride lots.

Really made my morning to hear government-sponsored mass transit getting millions while yet another private-sector company is shutting its doors. By the way, the PART bus that cruises down Wendover Avenue every afternoon now has tinted windows, no doubt so taxpayers can’t see it’s empty.
