OK, that one is done. The number of early votes this election cycle removes built-in excuses about the outcome for both the Uptown paper of record and John Lassiter’s campaign.

Turns out that 4400 more early votes were cast this year than in 2007, removing the Dilworth liberal fret that not enough polling places were available for early voters. But at the same time that early vote total and composition is not so great that Lassiter will start today in a deep hole. If the official turnout projection of 27 percent holds — and that number seems a little high to me — about 80 percent of all votes will be cast on Election Day. Clearly any lead that Anthony Foxx might have right now could be erased.
