So the roots of A&T’s troubles appear to be deeper than originally thought:

Auditors at N.C. A&T are investigating allegations of grant mismanagement in the College of Engineering and possible fraud in the School of Agriculture as part of ongoing probes on campus, interim Chancellor Lloyd V. Hackley said Wednesday.

The investigations, which Hackley requested in late December, are looking into deficiencies in internal controls, financial irregularities and other issues at the public university.

This is not good news from the university that is the third-leading grant recipient in the UNC system. I guess A&T’s like NCDOT: It had so much money it ran into cash management problems.

Meanwhile, incoming chancellor Stanley Battle says his excitement about coming to A&T hasn’t diminished “one iota.” That’s good. He’ll have a tough row to hoe when he arrives.
