While on the subject, why do cities not have enough money to repair chuckholes, and yet they engage in traffic calming? They make streets nice and smooth only to chunk them up. I’ve jested before they should do the same for sidewalks – in case somebody in a motorized wheelchair is going fast enough to clip a playing child.

Secondly, we are carbon-footprinting ourselves to death because the urban planners want motorists to circle buildings once or twice and dodge traffic islands. Yes, we know it is a plot to aggravate drivers to the point of walking, but it is only creating traffic snarls and wasting more gas than necessary.
