Over the past several days, JLF received two more opportunities to comment publicly on the $759 million light rail project planned for the Triangle. The Raleigh News & Observer reported Thursday that the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has balked—for a second time—at ridership projections provided by the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) as part of its bid to justify the 28-mile project and secure federal funding, which will cover 60 percent of the cost. On Friday, Chad Adams went head-to-head with TTA General Manager John Claflin during a taping of NBC 17’s “At Issue.” The show will air Sunday at 11 a.m. Last week, it was Michael Sanera’s turn to point out the facts of light rail in response to a pro-rail story in the Independent Weekly. Sanera’s letter to the editor noted that facts “are stubborn things” and that to believe light rail will solve the Triangle’s transportation woes is folly not supported by research.
