Guilford County commissioners reaction to the plan to coordinate the Triad’s transit systems:

Although better coordination among city and suburban bus systems could boost participation from 1 to 5 percent in 10 Triad counties, it would be costly, transportation consultant Brian Piascik told the Guilford County Board of Commissioners during a work session this week. It would take increased license fees of up to $7 by 2012 and sales tax hikes of as much as a half-cent after that to generate as much as $68 million.

“You have got to be kidding,” said Republican Commissioner Linda Shaw.

“I see this as a left-wing operation,” said fellow Republican Billy Yow.
