As the Obama administration’s top transit administrator toured the Triangle this week, the John Locke Foundation released a new report panning Wake County’s new transit plan. WTVD Television interviewed Michael Sanera, Director of Research and Local Government Studies, about the report, while WPTF Radio’s Bill LuMaye interviewed report co-author David Hartgen. The News & Observer also cited the JLF report. Speaking of Sanera, the Greensboro News & Record‘s “Off The Record” blog highlighted his recent article about smart growth in Davidson. Daren Bakst, JLF Director of Legal and Regulatory Studies, traveled to Charlotte to participate in N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis’ town hall meeting on compensation for victims of North Carolina’s eugenics-based forced sterilization program. The Charlotte Observer discussed the meeting in an article about a state eugenics task force’s recommendations, then previewed the meeting twice. The Observer also mentioned JLF in its meeting coverage. Bakst wrote a recent article for the Federalist Society on the federal Regulatory Accountability Act. Terry Stoops, Director of Education Studies, released a new report showing that North Carolina public school students struggle to keep up with peers from around the globe, despite public education spending levels that outpace most of our economic competitors. Stoops discussed his research with Pete Kaliner on WWNC Radio. Jon Sanders, Associate Director of Research, focused his latest TownHall.com column on President Obama’s use of religion to push his political agenda. Vice President for Research and Resident Scholar Roy Cordato debunked myths about global warming’s impact on North Carolina during a chat with Bill LuMaye on WPTF Radio. LuMaye also discussed immigration issues with Fergus Hodgson, Director of Fiscal Policy Studies. Hodgson reported for the Spanish-language publication Horizonte this week on the John Locke Foundation’s Shaftesbury Society meeting with representatives of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly.
