National Voter Outreach relates that they are in the mopping up phase of the transit tax repeal effort. With a target of 48,000 signatures, they have collected 60,000 and have handed in some 33,000 to the county board of elections.

The county next has to certify the signatures as valid. That operation should take several more weeks. Once the petition is certified, it goes on the ballot for November.

Neat little package, huh? Not quite. Expect Stan Campbell and the Uptown gang of fixers to kick their efforts into high gear. As they do not want to talk about CATS — as all the CATS facts are against them — they will try to make this fight about personalities and move to de-legitimize the repeal effort without ever touching on the merits of CATS’ plans.

Special shout-out to WBT’s Keith Larson: The Uptown smear-and-fear machine is about go redline.

Oh, and all those light rail people “tricked” into signing the petition, swarming the board of elections to remove their signatures? They seem to have gone missing.
