Municipal governments across Wake County are considering a proposed multibillion-dollar transit plan. Michael Sanera, John Locke Foundation Director of Research and Local Government Studies, is heading to these governments’ public meetings to highlight JLF research that reveals deep flaws in the county plan. Sanera addressed elected officials this week in Wake Forest and Raleigh, where WRAL Television interviewed him and the News & Observer‘s “Raleigh Report” blog highlighted his concerns. The Eastern Wake News reported on Sanera’s recent transit presentation to Knightdale council members. N.C. Senate Republicans promoted in their daily press email Sanera’s recent column on the Wake transit plan. In addition to transit, Sanera is panning the work of the Wake County environmental sustainability task force. He discussed his work on the topic with Bill LuMaye on WPTF Radio, and the Raleigh Public Record noted Sanera’s appearance at the meeting this week during which Wake County commissioners questioned much of the task force’s work. Along with transit and sustainability, Sanera has been highlighting the continued money problems associated with Raleigh’s convention center. The Heritage Foundation’s “Insider Online” promoted Sanera’s research on that topic. Roy Cordato, JLF Vice President for Research and Resident Scholar, discussed rising gas prices during an appearance this week with Chad Adams on the WLTT Radio morning program. N.C. Senate Republicans promoted this morning Cordato’s column warning about changes in the reporting of climate data. The Associated Press cited Terry Stoops, Director of Education Studies, in a report on North Carolina’s No. 42 ranking in school spending nationwide. WRAL, WBT, WWAY, and WITN Television highlighted the story, along with the Charlotte Observer, Greensboro News & Record, Wilmington Star-News, Asheville Citizen-Times, Winston-Salem Journal, Greenville Daily Reflector, Hendersonville Times-News, Statesville Record & Landmark, and Elizabeth City Daily Advance. The N.C. Association of Educators’ daily political briefing twice highlighted Stoops’ work on school funding rankings. PolitiFact Georgia referenced Stoops’ work on national teacher compensation comparisons, and the Mooresville Tribune published his recent column on childhood obesity. Fergus Hodgson, Director of Fiscal Policy Studies, wrote for La Conexion this week about the flaws in the Obama administration’s contraception mandate. Indiana’s Statehouse File quoted former JLF budget analyst Joseph Coletti’s critique of targeted tax incentives.
