CJ’s David Bass writes “many leaders and residents are surprised that state and local taxpayer dollars already flow” toward elective abortion.

Guilford County “hasn’t paid for the procedure in years,” while Forsyth County Commissioner Gloria Whisenhunt saids she was a “a little shocked” to find that the county covers elective abortion adding it “is an elective surgery, and I don’t think we should pay for it.” Fellow Forsyth Commissioner Walter Marshall said he “thinks that a woman should have the choice of having an abortion, but he added that the county has to follow the law.”

By the way, Marshall appeared on Rush Radio this morning to talk about the legal controversy surrounding prayer at commissioners’ meetings. Marshall repeated his view that the people who are advocating for prayer at public meetings are the “same folks who are against me getting the right to vote and desegregating the public schools.”

Hosts Bill and Pam challenged Marshall, but the discussion unfortunately ended up going around in circles. Bottom line is Marshall didn’t support his statement very well.
