WCNC reports on a surge in violence on Charlotte’s LYNX light rail (videos at the link):

Attacks caught on camera on LYNX light rail trains have people concerned about safety while riding.

Over the past few months, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have responded to nearly a dozen attacks. … We obtained several clips of surveillance video from LYNX showing some of the crimes on the light rail. Some videos show people getting kicked, robbed and full blown fights.

LYNX is expanding its rail service north to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte …

At last count, 76 transportation experts and planners — including many who are generally proponents of light rail — have looked into the light rail for Wake County and determined it wouldn’t make sense here. They would have the area order its transportation priorities more responsibly, more flexibly, and more in line with commuter needs.
