Earlier this week the State Superintendent Catherine Truitt announced her office was seeking applicants to serve on a New 48- member Parent Advisory Commission to “elevate the voice of parents in students’ education.”

I’ll give a thumbs up to most any idea that gives a bigger voice to parents and especially ones which amplifies the voice of parents whose children attend charter, private and home schools.

With almost one-quarter of students attending schools other than traditional public schools and more and more students moving back and forth between systems, efforts to encourage cooperation and communication among educational options are much needed.

The Parent Advisory Commission is a commonsense proposal to help do just that and it’s worthy of our support and participation.
