Former President Donald Trump’s political action committee has amassed a war chest of more than $85 million as he builds an operation meant to take on his enemies and possibly fuel another run for president in 2024.
Save America, Trump’s leadership PAC, heads into the second quarter with that gargantuan sum of cash on hand, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter who declined to be named as the fundraising data has not been made public.
The PAC wouldn’t have to look too far from home, should the former president want to make a splash in North Carolina’s 2022 U.S. Senate race. There’s lot of speculation about whether Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law and a frequent voice and face in North Carolina during the 2016 and 2020 election campaigns, will make a bid for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate. Carolina Journal reported this about three weeks ago, a comment by Mr. Trump that fueled speculation of a Lara Trump run.
Prospects of Lara Trump running for U.S. Senate in North Carolina next year got an unexpected boost Friday night. Her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump, suggested a Senate run during an impromptu public appearance in Florida.
“I want to thank Lara, who’s been so incredible,” the 45th president said from the stage of a dog rescue fundraiser at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
“I don’t know, you’re running for the Senate,” Trump quipped. “I hear she’s going to run for the Senate.”
Mr. Trump has also officially debuted a website, 45office.com. I think it’s safe to say he’s back. The question is, how will the public view him in his post-presidency role? Below is what Pew researchers found when they asked people to assess Mr. Trump’s legacy.
My read of the data is that he will hold sway with a big swath of Republican and/or Lean Republican voters, who will see his endorsements as a continuation of having “made progress” toward solving major problems facing the country. As expected, his legacy — and likely those he endorses — will be solidly rejected by Democrats/Lean Democrat.
