’Tis election eve, and Asheville is plastered in Obama bumper stickers and yard signs. This is contrasted to maybe three itty-bitty Hillary stickers in car windows. Is her campaign promoting small is beautiful, or was the price just too high for full-sized stickers and yard signs? Ron Paul supporters highway blogged one final time, getting waves and honks from about 75% of people passing below the bridge across I-240 by the Civic Center. 3-4% of passersby put their middle finger in the air, which was taken to mean they were voting for Hillary. One wouldn’t even know What’s-His-Name McCain was running. Mike Gravel, Alan Keyes, and Mike Huckabee are still on the ballot.

A day does not go by without hearing or seeing something from the ambitious campaign of Dr. Carl Mumpower for Congress. Hopeful Spence Campbell seems mysteriously self-assured, and John Armor doesn’t seem to care too much about campaigning.

Somebody with the Richard Moore campaign planted signs all over public rights of way last weekend, and a local hairstylist who traditionally supports candidates with no respect for party lines evidently had his shop mistaken for a precinct. Signs even of people opposing each other cropped up next to the adverts for his favorites.

Nine Democrats and Six Republicans are running for seats on the board of county commissioners. A lot of these people don’t even have web sites. City Councilwoman Holly Jones is running for one of the seats. She and Mumpower are abdicating their council seats midterm, making the probability very high that Bryan Freeborn will soon be serving a second appointed term on council. Other Democrats showing good support for winning a seat on the board of commissioners are the two incumbents, who don’t seem to feel the need to campaign, activist and investigative reporter Cecil Bothwell, perpetual office-seeker Keith Thomson, and former president of AB Tech K. Ray Bailey. Hopeful Republican hopefuls would be former straight-talking city councilman Joe Dunn and rabble-rouser extraordinaire Don Yelton.
