Public opinion often turns on seemingly insignificant things. One example is Joseph Welch’s question to Sen. Joseph McCarthy (“Have you no sense of decency, sir?”) that crystalized that issue for millions of Americans.

A similar moment, I predict, is the abominably ungrateful reaction
by the Christian Peacemaker Teams after the dramatic rescue of three of
their members by a heroic team of American and British military
personnel. Not once in his statement
did the Peacemaker spokesman thank the rescuers. Worse, he took the
opportunity to criticize the “illegal occupation of Iraq by
Multinational Forces,” calling that occupation “the root cause of the
insecurity which led to this kidnapping.” Adding insult, he claims they were “released” rather than rescued.

Americans tune in to
the news between kids, work and other activities and they miss some
things. But what always comes through clearly is rank ingratitude such
as this. This incident has done more to reveal the true character of
the left, the anti-war anarchists and their supporters in Congress than
any other. Their incredible lack of the normal human emotion of
gratitude belies the Christian rhetoric behind which they hide.

This is the Hard Left exposed and they will pay the price, and rightly so, in the court of public opinion.
