…we find that Houston has a small issue of electricity from its system leaking into the ground. The same company building Charlotte’s light rail cars and power system, Siemens Transportation Systems, built Houston’s system. Siemens has attempted to correct the problems, spending several hundred thousand dollars in the process while re-installing some rail anchors, but the electricty leakage persists.

The local utility, CenterPoint Energy, notified Houston Metro of the current leak back in May and remains concerned that the leak could, in theory, damage underground pipes near the tracks. (Rail-bed right-of-ways are packed with utility lines everywhere.)

But man, won’t those trains look great shooting sparks up and down South Blvd., stopping traffic all along the way?
