So Charlotte will have two African-American Cultural Centers after all. That would be the practical effect of giving the old Af-Am back to Little Rock AME Zion Church.
The new 44,000-square-foot Af-Am is part of the $150 million Wachovia Art Tower bundle.
The city of Charlotte bought the church from Little Rock in 1979 for $175,000 and turned it into the Af-Am while the church moved next door.
Any chance Little Rock will be giving back the $175,000 if it gets the building back? Nah, didn’t think so.
