There’s a silly response from someone who wrote a book back in 2005, claiming that all the criticism of Social Security as being unstable is “a lie.” The truth is that, far from being one of the great successes of American public policy, Social Security has undermined personal saving and allowed the feds to spend far more money than they could otherwise have without explicit tax increases. Social Security is one of the greatest blunders we’ve ever made. But the left defends it, much as Hitler ordered the Wehrmacht to defend every inch of conquered territory.
