An N.C. elections board member wonders why elections staff can find no records of two campaign contributions linked to a Saluda man.

The man — Charlie Brown Jr. — is tied to Mountain View Music & Games, a company with video poker machines. He’s testified this afternoon that he collected cash in August 2003 from his mother, daughter, and daughter-in-law. He says he converted that cash into money orders destined for House Speaker Jim Black’s campaign.

But elections board member Genevieve Sims says there’s no record of the donations from Brown’s daughter and daughter-in-law.

Under questioning from Sims, Brown also admitted that he disguised a $500 contribution from one of his employees — Keith Emory — by purchasing a money order in the name of that employee’s wife.
