Two members of Congress from North Carolina bucked their party’s caucus choices when it cam to casting their votes for speaker of the House today. And it was a bipartisan effort.

Third District Congressman Walter Jones, a Republican, did not vote for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and 7th District Congressman Mike McIntyre, a Democrat, did not vote for Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Jones, who was recently removed from a committee assignment by Boehner, voted for David Walker for speaker. Walker is a former U.S. comptroller general. The Constitution does not require the speaker to the House to be a member of the House of Representatives.

McIntyre voted for Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn.

The Washington Post reports that 12 Republicans did not vote for Boehner for speaker, while 20 Democrats voted for someone other than Pelosi.

By the way, Boehner was elected to his second term as speaker.
