The N&R spins Guilford County’s entry into the federal 287(G) program. You guessed it: Law enforcement officers will abuse the program, “sweeping up” large numbers of nonviolent offenders.
Apparently the same release announcing Guilford as a participant in 287(g) contains a Memorandum of Agreement calling for an end to incarcerating nonviolent offenders.
No surprise, Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson opposes the signature release orders for those charged with minor offenses.
