Guarino corrals leftist reaction to the Greensboro City Council’s ‘statement of regret’ over the Klan-Nazi shootings.

Note how I just referred to the events of Nov. 3, 1979. Admittedly that’s the way it’s become known in popular lore. But that doesn’t excuse the subtle bias in today’s N&R editorial, which presumably is a balanced view of the situation. The words “Klan,” “Klansmen” and “Nazis” appear regularly throughout the editorial, while members of the Communist Workers Party who staged the “Death to the Klan” rally are merely (note the lower case) “communist protesters,” identified as such only once.

And while the editorial places blame on the Klan and Nazis for “for killing five people, some of them shot at point-blank range on TV news footage,” nowhere is it mentioned that CWP members were also armed and exchanged gunfire.

Typical media bias —- the left is always the victim. Byt the way, one question has always bothered me —- does it strike anyone else as odd that people are complaining that the very government they were seeking to overthrow didn’t protect them?
