U.S. News published the 2018 Best States Rankings this week. McKinsey & Company used over 75 metrics and thousands of data points to create the annual ranking of states. Congratulations to Iowa for hitting the top spot. North Carolina was ranked 23rd overall.
The education ranking metrics included higher education and pre-K-12 data. For higher education, the state was 10th. For pre-K-12 education, North Carolina was 23rd.
North Carolina really excelled in the fiscal stability category (6th), but the state fell short in health care (37th) and opportunity (40th) metrics.
