They thought they were negotiating with addled GM and Chrysler again execs, not up against senators steeled by a triple whammy — public resentment of the deal, philosophical heartburn with de facto nationalization, and their own special interests (Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, BMW plants back home.)
Still, this will come back after Obama takes office, you watch.
