City Councilman John Lassiter thinks the spots in question are so non-campaign related he put his City Source profile on his…Lassiter for Mayor web site. Not sure what this says about Lassiter’s view — put forth Friday by him — that the profiles are a public service. Must be that political campaigns are a public service.

And what of City Attorney Mac McCarley, did he not know Lassiter’s campaign was using a profile as campaign material when he issued his emphatic categorical denial that the profiles were campaign-related? Or does he think that political campaigns are simply part of communicating with constituents?

In any event, check out how the source of the video — government-funded TV — is not clear from the clip.

Update: Here is councilman at-large Ed Peacock’s city produced campaign video, the one he is currently featuring on his campaign site. Both the Lassiter and Peacock profiles have their roots in a December 2008 broadcast of City Source which profiled all sitting council members and then was inexplicably repeated last week, several weeks after candidate filing closed.
