In a letter that reads like an unwitting homage to Monty Python, a UNC-Chapel Hill student studying abroad in Finland urges his peers to take the professor’s advice to heart, that they can “change the world.”
Specifically, they should change it to Finland.
“Living in Finland for just three weeks,” he writes, “I have found that many of the issues I push for in the States are a reality here — from an efficient social welfare system to a culture that consumes resources and produces waste at an astoundingly lower rate than the U.S.”
I’d caution students about placing too much weight in this student’s particular preferences. After all, he admits that last year he read Nickel and Dimed “for pleasure.”
