Is having UNC in a state university’s name important? Well, according to Rep. Bill Owens (D-Pasquotank), having the UNC title in a school’s title could make a big difference:
“I have heard it talked about for about 20 years,” he said. “The
name I’ve heard the most is UNC-Elizabeth City. I think the reason is that
UNC was voted number one in the nation for public universities and is known
worldwide for basketball and other things.”
But even if the UNC name wasn’t used, something which includes the name of the
state would be beneficial, he said.
“If I were king, every university in North Carolina would have the
state’s name in it because the people of North Carolina are the ones paying
the bills,” Owens said.
After this board meeting at ECSU, as a tax payer I am so glad they discuss such important issues.
