Here’s UNC-CH student and Elyse Crystall apologist Will Hall’s letter to The Daily Tar Heel today:

I find it very unfortunate that a lecturer’s e-mail aimed at preventing further anti-gay hate speech in the classroom has been labeled as “discrimination” and “harassment.” I believe the true verbal assault involved the student’s disparaging remarks in the class toward homosexuals.

Would there have been a federal investigation if a teacher had called out a student for making harmful and offensive comments against women or racial minorities?

This incident should be a wake-up call for the administration actively to communicate the anti-harassment policy to the University community and to prepare instructors on how to prevent and handle classroom situations involving verbal slams on oppressed social groups.

You’re wrong. This is the United States of America, not the Union of Sensitive Soviets. Respecting individuals by race and gender means all races and genders, even *gasp!* white males. No exceptions granted even if they’re Christian and heterosexual ? despite the petition circulated last spring at UNC-CH calling that a “perversion of anti-discrimination codes [that] sets a dangerous precedent.” Expressing hatred through discrimination and harassment for the common good just doesn’t fly. Too bad, eh?
