A series of meetings linked to this morning’s expected announcement of a new University of North Carolina system president generated multiple Carolina Journal stories and outside media attention for CJ‘s work. The N.C. Spin website and N.C. Senate Republicans’ daily press email highlighted Associate Editor Kari Travis‘ article detailing some UNC Board of Governors members’ criticism of chairman John Fennebresque.

Travis then broke the story that Fennebresque and the reported top candidate for the job, former U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings, left a closed-door BOG meeting for an unpublicized meeting with Gov. Pat McCrory. That report attracted attention from the Greensboro News and Record, Time Warner Cable News, Beaufort Observer, N.C. Spin, and the state Senate GOP. Managing Editor Rick Henderson discussed Travis’ reports during an appearance on TWC News’ statewide “Capital Tonight” program.
