hhUnreal. Police have just IDed the victim of a shooting in Chapel Hill early yesterday morning as student body president Eve Carson.

The search is now on for her 2005 blue Toyota Highlander with Georgia license plate AIV 6690. Police are not characterizing the crime, but it certainly sounds like a carjacking. Carson was shot multiple times and discovered in the street. She carried no identification, possibly indicating that those items had been taken from her, especially an ATM card.

The Chapel Hill incident is shockingly similar to a shooting of an Auburn co-ed Tuesday night. In that case, Lauren Burk, 18, was found fatally shot on a highway just off campus. The Alabama governor has offered a $10,000 reward for information in the case, but police have made no arrests yet.

Carson, 22, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Morehead-Cain Scholar. She was a pre-med major, with a double major in political science and biology.

Update: The SUV was found on Franklin St. and is now being processed. Police said that they had reason to believe the person(s) responsible for the shooting had been in the vehicle, but are not going beyond that.

Update II: The UNC Board of Trustees has offered a $25,000 reward for info in the case. Police have also added that they believe Carson has shot at the location her body was found. The SUV is still being processed for evidence.

Update III: Police evidently have a video surveillance photo that is making the rounds of law enforcement circles and that I presume will be made public today. Chapel Hill police also started doing the random/targeted tap-dance in which they try not to admit that violent predators most definitely target certain populations.
