The UNCA Board of Trustees is recommending increasing the cost of attending the school by $713 for in- and out-of-state students. The increase includes a $500 tuition increase, part of which will provide “need-based financial aid.”
The university would use the revenue generated by the tuition increase to address critical needs related to maintaining UNC Asheville’s academic quality and the student experience, including maintaining faculty positions, enhancing diversity, and funding undergraduate research, student recruitment and retention, and campus safety efforts, said Cissie Stevens, UNC Asheville Board of Trustees chair.
An additional fee increase will include $23 per student to pay for student health and counseling, $60 for better IT, and $40 for “the development of the new women’s swim team.” The debt service fee will increase $90 to help acquire the MAHEC Family Health Center for health and counseling services because the colossal Wilma Sherrill echo chamber is evidently not large enough with all its meditation rooms.
