UNCG’s phat new School of Education might sit empty unless the General Assembly provides operating funds. Chancellor Linda Brady seems to have a reasonable grip on the situation, saying “(w)e would simply look at other areas of our budget and reduce those areas to free up operating funds to staff and maintain the building.”

I agree with the commenter beneath article when she says “UNCG is one the best educational schools in the USA.” More that ****years ago the school turned out one of the best teachers I’ve ever known, who just happens to be my sainted mother. With this in mind, one would hope the university would take control of the situation and not rely on the legislature.

Meanwhile, the Winston-Salem Journal editorializes on yet another legislative irony. While there is a chance that UNCG’s ed school and 17 other buildings under construction might not open if operating funds aren’t provided, the General Assembly is set to borrow hundreds of millions for new engineering facilities for N.C. State and N.C. A&T.
