The N&R follows up this Ed Cone post on UNCG’s plan to replace the Quad. I didn’t live in Quad dorms — I lived in Strong Residential College, otherwise known “Hell Dorm” in the mid ’80s. But I spent countless hours throwing Frisbee in the Quad and it’s still a major part of my running and cycling routes.

This makes no sense in light of budget cuts that have forced faculty layoffs. Don’t get me wrong –I’m anticipating the logic of faculty and administration offering up worse-case scenarios in light of faculty taking on the responsibility of more courses and larger class sizes. The same enrollment pressures that are forcing UNCG to possibly sacrifice its “historic jewel” are the same pressures that dictate faculty should not be cut. But that said, you have to ask exactly where the $100 million will come from. I didn’t see that issue addressed in the article.
