We recently told you about the National Association of Scholars report on the lack of fundamental courses in the general education requirements of campuses in the UNC System. Now the story has found its way to www.campusreportonline.net, a service that reports on political bias in education. The site’s story, using the headline “North Carolina’s Callow Core” documents the basics and gives samples of the many courses designed around the “cultural diversity” theme, while reminding readers that none of the institutions studied requires all undergraduates to take a U.S. history course. Meantime, UNC-TV has interviewed George Leef about whether or not a new minor in Latina/o studies at UNC-Chapel is appropriate and necessary. The piece will air as part of the nightly newsmagazine, “North Carolina Now.” You can read Leef’s written commentary on the subject at www.popecenter.org.
