“Under the Tuscan Sun” was a great book and a very good movie. I enjoyed both. I never understood, however, why the movie had to be gayed up with a lesbian story line and the gay bus tour, neither of which were in the book. But, hey, I’m no Hollywood producer.

I learned from Susan Broili in The Herald-Sun that “Tuscan Sun” author Frances Mayes has settled in the Triangle, buying a home in Treyburn and working out of a studio Hillsborough. I’d like to offer this Fitzgerald, Ga., native a hearty Triangle welcome. I was just recently in her old home town when I was visiting relatives in nearby Ashburn and Cordele. South Georgia is OK, but I think I’d prefer a villa in Tuscany too.
