Getting a little esoteric here, one of my favorite groups of all time is Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band. They are the Beatles of jug bands and the album shown at right is the Sgt. Pepper’s of jug band albums. Only Dave Van Ronk’s Jug Stompers comes close, but it’s really no contest. Kweskin’s reedy tenor, Maria Muldaur‘s
lilting vocals (which hit the charts a few years later in “Midnight at
the Oasis”) and Geoff Muldaur’s laid-back baritone put this ensemble in
a class by themselves. Anybody I play this album for has come away
loving it.
