According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the National Education Association opened their coffers giving $1.5 million to their Utah affiliate in the last three weeks. Utah’s parental choice program was narrowly approved by the 2007 Legislature, giving all families going to a private school a voucher to financially assist with tuition. After the law was passed, Utahns for Public Education, group of voucher opponents, collected enough signatures through a petition drive to force a referendum hoping to overturn the law.
