Pondering the future of Union Station, which the City of Winston-Salem seized via eminent domain:

In their dreams, Winston-Salem officials see Union as a station for high-speed rail coming through Winston-Salem – although consulting architect Rence Callahan told folks at Tuesday’s meeting that it was “safe to say that for the foreseeable future there won’t be any trains coming through here.”

So with that mind, some other ideas are popping up for Union Station—such as “as a place where students could learn from tutors or develop computer skills.” Way cheaper to be sure, but falling far short of the city’s big dreams.
