Here’s the latest installment in an old, old story.

A worker who brought legal action that has shot down (at least for now) UAW “representation” for workers at the Thomas Built Bus plant in High Point now needs a 24-hour security detail because of UAW threats against him. You can read the story here.

Harassment, intimidation, and violence by union officials against workers who don’t want to be a part of their operation is revealing. Union bosses always say that they’re on the side of the workers and will advance their interests, but when workers say, “no, thanks,” the union officials often reply with brownshirt tactics. So do they really care about the workers, or about the inflow of dues money and power? I think it’s the latter. As one union official candidly admitted, “I’m a businessman. I sell labor.” Workers who don’t feel like having to pay a middleman for their jobs often suffer for it.
