Here’s a good article by Gary Andres on the fact that Big Labor is such a huge source of campaign cash for the Dems. If workers had the freedom to decide how much they’d like of their dues to be spent on politics, a large percentage would undoubtedly say “Less.” But they have no choice, thanks to the National Labor Relations Act.

The interesting question is why so few Republicans have any enthusiasm for trying to change our authoritarian labor laws in ways that would give individuals the freedom to say “no thanks” to union representation. Could it be that the GOP strategy here is to become such enthusiastic supporters of the expansion of government that the unions will reconsider their overwhelming support for Democrats and start tossing more money their way? From the last several sessions of Congress, that seems quite plausible.
