Well that didn’t take very long.
Hours after we speculate that Gloria Pace King’s compensation package was not exactly a secret amongst the Uptown crowd, up step members of the Uptown crowd to say that King’s lavish pay was a frequent topic of concern, it was just that everyone was too scared to complain about it.
How’s that for Charlotte’s moral leadership?
This points to a sudden general confusion about how to “fix” what went wrong with the UW. Shrinking the board will not necessarily improve “oversight” if all the members are afraid to say anything about how the operation is run. The entire point of having a huge board is to spread the burden of the volunteer work and get as many hooks as possible in the business world. Responsibilities are purposefully hazy. At any point in the past few years, someone could’ve said, “Hey? Does this make a lick of sense?” But because the money was rolling in, all was forgiven and nothing questioned.
Does anyone see a curious yet telling parallel to other local operations — both public and private — in recent years?
Look at all the money. We must be doing right. I swear, it is the Bakkers and the PTL club all over again, just without the waterslide and make-up.
