Liberals always look at you with a blank stare when you use phrases like “government coercion” and “at the point of a gun” to describe taxation and other government regulations. And they look at you like you’re crazy when you say that welfare is analogous to a cop on the street pulling his gun and demanding that you give a panhandler some money. This is the same reaction they had when health care rationing boards were called death panels.
“The government doesn’t literally have a gun,” they complain. “Well, they actually never used the term ‘death panels’ so you’re wrong.” What is it with liberals and metaphors?
Well, how about this, those of you who see no coercion in government actions?:
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.
Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”
Note to libs and lefties: When they take you to jail for not handing your money over to the government, they use guns.
