The underlying assumptions are that race discrimination is to blame for one and a contentious backer for the other.  According to some officials, mortgage lenders and brokers are discriminating against African Americans and Latinos when they set high interest rates for their subprime home loans.  Taking their claims of race discriminations to task, Daren Bakst in the Fayetteville Observer, raises some questions that challenge the conclusion that the entire industry needs to be overhauled.
