The Mercatus Center at George Mason University has unveiled a new chart tracking state and local government spending versus private spending since 1950:
The differences are startling: since 1950, private spending has
increased 5-fold while state and local government spending has increased
nearly 10-fold.?
This finding is not terribly surprising for governments that follow a spend-and-tax budget cycle.
