Here’s my update. It appears the crowd had gathered at Asheville’s city council meeting last night to voice support for civil rights. During open public comment, they objected to being filmed by the police at the Mountain Moral Monday meeting. Aspersions were cast about a lack of transparency in what the police department does with the tapes, doubts expressed that they were used for training purposes. The dude with the fake pot plant just put it on the podium with him for silent companionship or decoration when he addressed council. Councilman Cecil Bothwell figured prominently in the debate which, on the surface I support. Unfortunately, I am so jaded I expect dastardly underpinnings in any political debate. Police Chief William Anderson left the meeting before the party began. Delightful coverage may be found here.
