A legislative committee studying the future of Common Core public school standards in North Carolina heard testimony this week from John Locke Foundation Director of Research and Education Studies Terry Stoops. Stoops shared highlights from his new Spotlight report recommending two new permanent state commissions to devise the best standards, curricula, and testing programs for the state’s schools. The News & Observer reported on Stoops’ testimony, along with WUNC Radio. Stoops discussed his report during a conversation with Bill Flynn on WEGO Radio. He returns to the Common Core topic this afternoon during an appearance with Bill LuMaye on Talk Radio WPTF.

Stoops discussed North Carolina education changes, including new opportunity scholarships and the end of teacher tenure, during radio appearances with Donna Martinez on WPTF and Lockwood Phillips on WTKF. Vice President for Research and Resident Scholar Roy Cordato joined Phillips on WTKF’s “Viewpoints Radio” to discuss the government-mandated minimum wage. 

Phillips also discussed Common Core on “Viewpoints Radio” with Director of Education Outreach Lindalyn Kakadelis. Kakadelis analyzed the latest developments in North Carolina’s study of Common Core standards during an appearance on the WRHT Radio morning program.

JLF Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray discusses political developments and the latest public policy news during her twice-weekly appearances on WTSB Radio. Gray also traveled to Davidson this week for a public forum on electoral redistricting reform. The Charlotte Observer cited JLF participation in that event. The Davidson News covered the forum.
